Boys Basketball: Turner’s clutch free throws leads St. Joe’s to big win over Notre Dame

BOYS BASKETBALL: St. Joseph used an 11-0 run toward the end of the third quarter to build a slim lead Saturday night against Notre Dame, and then the Chargers sealed the game from the free-throw line in the final period. Paul Turner hit all eight of his attempts from the charity-stripe, including six in the fourth quarter, and St. Joseph claimed a 66-60 nonconference victory in Niles.

Kurfirst, Lions finish first  at sectional

GIRLS GYMNASTICS: Led by freshman all-arounder champion Kelsy Kurfirst, Lyons won the Hinsdale Central Sectional Monday night to advance to the state meet.

BOYS BASKEBALL: Forced to play a slowdown game that wasn’t to their liking, Lyons Township stayed patient and outscored Downers North 13-3 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 38-30 West Suburban Conference Silver victory in LaGrange that kept their slim conference title hopes alive.
