Lyons Township’s Alex Chatt came up a bit short at the girls’ state tennis finals last weekend at Prospect High School.
Chatt dropped a tough three-set match to Morgan Park Academy’s Jerricka Boone in the finals of the state singles tournament 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
A year ago, Chatt was forced to withdraw in the sectional singles’ finals due to an injury in her right hip. That injury persisted, forcing her to miss the state meet.
Chatt spent the past year rehabbing and playing tennis, waiting for her opportunity. The sophomore came back even stronger this year, advancing to the finals and beating some tough seeds along the way including Grayslake North’s Kelly Poggensee-Wei 6-0. 7-5 in the quarterfinals and Wheaton-Warrenville South’s Keisha Clousing in the semifinals 6-3, 6-3.
“The hip feels stronger than ever,” Chatt said. “I played very well this week and I am looking forward to having some time off.”
