Harris wins two events at sectional

Lyons Township junior Matt Harris had a successful meet at the Oak Park-River Forest Class 3A Sectional on May 17, winning two individual events.
Harris won the long jump with a jump of 23 feet, 8 3/4 inches and the 110 high hurdles in 14.94 seconds.
Harris owns the state’s top sectional distance in the long jump. Last year’s state champion won with a jump of 23-8.
Other Lions qualifying were junior Lino Mogorovic, who won the 300 hurdles in 38.78; junior Jimmy Mitchell, who finished second in the discus with a toss of 131-9; freshman Alex Lima, who was second in the 800 run in 1:59.19; and the 400 relay, which finished second in 43.42.
The top-two finishers in each event and those achieving qualifying standards qualify for the state meet, The preliminaries will be held Friday with the finals set for Saturday at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Harris finished 10th at state in the long jump last season after placing fourth as a freshman.
Oak Park-River Forest won the sectional with 175 points, while LT was second with 114.
