WESTERN SPRINGS — Relay for Life supporters had plenty to cheer about June 8 in Bennett Field at Lyons Township High School. Just days before, the school’s fundraising effort to fight cancer surpassed the $1 million mark during the event’s 11th year.

A herd of brightly colored animals settle in Burlington Park

HINSDALE — A herd of metal animals moved into Hinsdale Thursday morning. The red bull, giant rooster and 10-foot pink flamingoes came on a flatbed truck and were unloaded with a forklift at Burlington Park in Hinsdale.

LA GRANGE — Military veterans and first responders were honored during the 67th Annual Pet Parade June 1 winding through the center of town. Parade organizers chose eight area World War II veterans as grand marshals. The servicemen have been recognized through the Honor Flight organization with a trip to Washington, D.C. in the past three years. The eight veterans shared top parade honors with Molly McElligott, 11, from LaGrange Park as junior grand marshal.
