Memorial Day parade
Citizens of Western Springs and neighboring communities were presented a wonderful Memorial Day parade and observance. The parade committee of VFW Post 10778 express our collective appreciation to all who assisted.
The members of the Western Springs Business Association, the Police and Fire departments, park district and public works, the Western Springs Historical Society, the LIMA LIMA WWII flying club, the American Motorcycle Riders Association, the Northern Illinois Military Vehicles Preservation Association, Volvo of Oak Park, Fiat of Chicago, Jim McGrath, Mike and Jim Eckwall, Jim Manda, Chris and Cathy Pastwa, Dough Schaffer, Art and Marge Swanson, Ron Uribe, the marching bands of LTHS and Nazareth, Clare Hogan and Andrew Stables who performed a beautiful rendition of “Taps” and Maggie Smith and Nancy Payne who read the names of the fallen, the camera crew of LTHS’s television station LTTV, the support of the Lyons Township Board and supervisor William Mundy for providing the flags for the children, Minuteman Press, Endpoint Graphics, Mel Villicana the parade grand marshal and all participating veterans, and for the members of the Parade Committee — Carol Ann O’Donnell, Jack Schaus, Jack Lund, Sid Frazen, Bob Bogash, Pete Zika, Val Price and Craig Harris.
The parade and observance is presented as a solemn reminder that our beautiful country and way of life have been secured thought the ultimate sacrifices of so many service personnel and the sacrifices of the families whom they loved. We shall always be indebted to them.
