Journalist visits St. John of the Cross school

At 7 p.m. on Oct. 3, St. John of the Cross Parish School presents award-winning Philadelphia journalist and author Susan FitzGerald who will speak at the Parish Center located at 5005 Wolf Road, Western Springs. Admission is free and open to the public. A book-signing will follow the talk.
FitzGerald will speak about her new book entitled Letting Go with Love and Confidence: Raising Responsible, Resilient, Self-Sufficient Teens in the 21st Century (Avery, 2011). Co-authored with renowned adolescent medicine specialist Kenneth Ginsburg, M.D., the book offers parents a strategy for guiding children through all the turning points of adolescence and young adulthood. The book challenges the tendency of modern parents to shelter and overprotect their children and helps them develop their children’s independence and resilience.
