Thespian inductions
The Lyons Township High School Reber Center and the Performing Art Center at South Campus are like second and third homes to theater students who spend hours and hours on stage acting and behind stage directing, working sound and lights, and even ushering. Twenty students were recently inducted into LTHS Thespian Troupe 1368 and recognized for their service to the theater. Eleven additional students were recently recognized as Honor Thespians for their service of more than 600 hours.
Students are awarded points for their theater work, as outlined by the International Thespian Society. After earning 20 points, or 200 hours of service, students may be inducted into LT’s Thespian Troupe. When a student reaches 60 points, or 600 hours of service, a student is recognized as an Honor Thespian.

Salazar excels in writing
Theodora Salazar, of Countryside, received an honorable mention in the Playwriting category for her play “Raising the Dead” at Columbia College Chicago’s Young Authors Awards 2012.
Columbia’s Young Authors awards program, in its 15th year, attracted more than 1,200 entries from high school students across the United States. The day’s events included Story Workshop writing classes, a publishing panel of established writers and a chance for the young authors to read their work at an open mic.
Novelists, short-story writers, journalists, editors, playwrights and creative writing teachers judged the students’ submissions. First-, second- and third-place winners in each category won cash prizes of $200, $100, and $50, respectively.
