Four Lyons Township High School Advanced Placement economics students participated in the 2012 Illinois Economics Challenge State Finals, a program of Econ Illinois. The event was held in April at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and involved 40 high school students competing for the championship title.

The championship event consisted of individual, team and quiz bowl rounds. Nearly 350 students participated in the online rounds of competition in March, with 10 teams qualifying for the state event.

LT seniors Jesse Anderson of Brookfield, Jason Dolinski, of LaGrange Park, Ben Krueger of La Grange and Karl Laubacher, of Western Springs all participated in the state qualifier.

The Illinois Economics Challenge is designed to recognize Advanced Placement students who demonstrate high levels of comprehension and application of economics concepts and skills; and to reward teachers for outstanding practices in teaching economics courses.

The challenge is a Money Smart Week event in Chicago. The 2012 Econ Challenge is a program of Econ Illinois, funded in part through a grant from DeVry Foundation, with in-kind support provided by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago and the NIU College of Business.
