On Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, the Western Springs Police Department will be conducting a special traffic safety initiative on Ogden Avenue/ U.S. Route 34 within Western Springs.
The primary objective of this campaign is to increase the safety of motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians who utilize Ogden Avenue by providing enhanced public education and traffic enforcement to reduce crashes. Western Springs Police Officers will be aggressively enforcing statutory speed limit, occupant restraint, and crosswalk laws along Ogden Avenue in Western Springs.
According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, 562 people have lost their lives while traveling on roads in Illinois so far in 2013. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that speed is a factor in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes nationwide and speed-related crashes cost society more than $23 billion dollars a year. The Western Springs Police Department would like to remind all motorists to drive defensively, buckle up, put down your cellular devices, and slow down.
