Helping Hand Center, a nonprofit in Countryside, is helping people with disabilities get jobs in the local community. The center’s mission is to assist individuals with developmental disabilities to achieve their highest level of independence through quality programs and services. One of the ways they fulfill their mission is by providing employment services for people with disabilities. They have helped 19 people with disabilities obtain employment this year.
From helping a client prepare a resume to preparing a client for an interview, Helping Hand Center assists people with disabilities every step of the way in the career process. One of the largest benefits after a client obtains employment is on-site job training and job coaching. Other services provided include disability awareness training for the employer and coworkers and assistance with completing tax incentive forms.
Helping Hand Center provides high school students with disabilities their next step through paid and voluntary work experience, job placement, job coaching and self-advocacy services.
