McDonald’s of Westchester was the place to be for the annual Rock-A-Thon fund-raiser for WLTL radio station held Feb. 7. WLTL is a non-commercial radio station located at Lyons Township High School in La Grange. WLTL can be found at the frequency 88.1 and broadcasts at 180 watts, reaching 17 surrounding communities. WLTL is owned by High School District 204 and is operated by the students.
WLTL is one of the largest academic clubs at LTHS, and has about 100,000 listeners a week. It’s the recipient of more than 25 awards of excellence, including the John Drury award for Best High School Radio Station in the Nation. WLTL has also been recognized nationally for the quality broadcasting that it provides by the National Association of Broadcasters.
Ronald McDonald, Julian from B96, and John Williams from WGN, made a special appearance to support this event. The goal for WLTL is to raise $30,000 for the station. Last year during Rock-A-Thon they raised approximately $22,000, 85 percent goes to the radio station and the remainder goes to their TV station. Community support ensures that the more than 100 students WLTL supports will continue to receive the highest quality training in radio possible.
To donate go to www.wltl.net or call Rock-A-Thon Director Alex Smart at (708) 482-9585.
