INDIAN HEAD PARK
Companies interested in providing electricity to Indian Head Park residents and businesses have until Feb. 25 to submit their proposals.
The village sent requests for proposals to 16 energy suppliers.
The Village Board will hold a special meeting Feb. 28 to consider choosing one of the firms and awarding a contract, or continue buying electricity from ComEd.
In the November election, voters authorized the village to negotiate with suppliers for electric rates for residents and small businesses in order to save money.
ComEd will continue to bill residents for delivery of electricity and maintain the power grid to provide service. But with deregulation, the company will be in competition with other electrical suppliers.
After the village approves its supplier, customers will have the opportunity to opt out of the aggregation program.
Village officials instructed the firms to include in their proposals a base price, of dollar per kilowatt hour, plus prices for when renewable energy sources are used in combination with non-renewable sources for generating power.
The firms are supposed to provide rates for when 25 percent, 50 percent and 100 percent renewable energy, from sources such as hydro, wind or solar, are used.~.
