INDIAN HEAD PARK — An Indian Head Park mother saved her son from their burning home Jan. 11.

The woman returned to her Pontiac Drive house at about 4:40 p.m. to find the house full of smoke. She ran upstairs and woke her sleeping teen-aged son, Pleasantview Fire Protection District Chief Kevin Doyle said.

Doyle said smoke detectors were working in the house, but they did not wake the teen, who escaped without injury.

The cause of the fire, which started in the living room and spread to the home’s second floor and attic, is under investigation.

“It certainly does not appear suspicious,” Doyle said.

Doyle said the family had to move out while repairs are made to the home.

“It is not habitable,” he said.
