Registration set for Lyons Football Club team and cheerleading

WESTERN SPRINGS — Registration for football and cheerleading will take place in person on Jan. 27 in the cafeteria at the Lyons Township High School South Campus, 4900 S. Willow Springs Road, Western Springs.
The football players are kids entering second through eighth grades in the fall, and the cheerleaders are those entering first through eighth grades.
There are no qualifications necessary for either league, but it is a big commitment.
This is a travel league and they practice a lot and compete. The online registration has already begun at lyonsfootballclub.com.
Registration cost is $375 for both programs.
The cheerleading program focuses on progressive skills for children, with an emphasis on safety, respect, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship. Cheerleaders are expected to work as a team and attend five practices a week in late July and early August. Once school begins, they will attend practice three days a week (currently Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with a to be determined third day) when they will participate in tumbling skill practice, dance choreography and stunt training as well as sideline and halftime cheer instruction, all provided under adult coach supervision and the guidance of volunteer teen coaches in preparation for games and competitions.
Cheerleaders can also expect to learn about and support the game of football.
The squads will cheer at home and away Lyons Football Club Tigers football games on Saturdays or Sundays starting in mid-August through the first week of November.
The registration fee includes all practices and scheduled competitions and the cost of the required uniform, all regular accessories and team warm-ups except for required cheer shoes.
Any optional spiritwear is offered at an additional cost.
