Western Springs crime briefs for Jan. 15

The following incidents were listed among the official reports of the Western Springs and Indian Head Park police departments.
Western Springs
BURGLARY
Someone attempted to break into a home on the 4900 block of Commonwealth Avenue between 10:15 and 11:30 a.m. Jan. 11. Pry marks were found on the front and rear doors, but entry wasn’t gained.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
The traffic signal at Ogden and Gilbert avenues was damaged at about 7 p.m. Jan. 9 by an unknown truck driver, who failed to report the incident. An estimate to repair the signal wasn’t available.
Indian Head Park
DECEPTIVE PRACTICE
A resident reported Jan. 7 that he had seen a New York apartment advertised for rent in the New York University newspaper. The address and unit number of the apartment was stated. To secure the apartment for his daughter, he sent a wire transfer for $3,327 on Dec. 14 to an account with the Bank of America, New York. He later learned that no such apartment exists. He will see if his bank can recover the money he wired.~.
