HINSDALE — Hinsdale is getting a little more standing in Springfield with the new General Assembly that began Wednesday.
State Sen. Kirk Dillard, R-24th of Hinsdale, was named assistant Senate Republican leader by Sen. Christine Radogno, of Lemont, who was re-elected minority leader.
On the House side, state Rep. Patti Bellock, R-47th of Hinsdale, was named assistant minority leader to House Republican leader Tom Cross of Oswego.
Radogno praised Dillard’s familiarity with state government, including his past positions as chief of staff to Gov. Jim Edgar and director of legislative affairs for Gov. Jim Thompson.
“I know Kirk’s ability to work with our colleagues across the aisle to achieve bipartisan solutions to the state’s problems will be a tremendous asset, and I look forward to having him on my leadership team,” Radogno said.
Dillard unsuccessfully sought the minority leader position two years ago, losing to Radogno. He ran for governor in 2010 and has hinted at another run in 2014.
Bellock’s work on Medicaid reform and state finances were highlighted by Cross in announcing her position on the House Republican leadership team.
