LA GRANGE — Challenger Tom Clancy is leading according to early returns in the race for trustee of South Lyons Township Sanitary District.
With 7 of 8 precincts reporting, Clancy has 60 percent, or 1,130 votes cast, compared to incumbent John Finn of Countryside, who trails with 742 votes or 40 percent.
Clancy of La Grange said Finn has mismanaged the district while serving as president without proper oversight of a contractor resulting in high legal bills.
Finn defended his record, saying he saved the district more than $1 million by securing a 1.25 million federal grant and a $3.75 million federal loan for the project, which was done properly and greatly improved operation.
The district operates a separated system serving 1,221 residential customers, 40 industrial sites and 214 commercial properties in the south part of La Grange and northern Countryside. Rainwater and sewage are carried from the district in separate pipes for treatment or disposal.
