WESTERN SPRINGS — Art doesn’t grow on trees.
But children from Field Park School are making art on local trees with an art show that runs through Nov. 23.
More than 40 students wrapped three trees outside the entrance to the school, 4335 Howard Ave. They had a ball racing around the trees like frenetic Maypole dancers, said parent Kathleen G. Thometz.
“This is only the beginning,” said Kirsten Rachford, one of the shows organizers.
The rest of the show is an installation behind the school. Each class at Field Park selected a tree to serve as the inspiration and centerpiece for their project. They will be hang their projects on the trees, in the trees and around the trees.
Mrs. Egan’s 4th grade class’s piece entitled Climb A TREE, is made up of 26 different ladders made by the children from sticks and embellished with ribbons, yarns and bells.
There will be 13 pieces in all. The public is welcome to tour the show.
