More than 1,200 runners and walkers entered the Tower Trot 5K and 10K races May 24 in Western Springs.

Of the 311 entrants who finished the 10K contest, Mark Holt of LaGrange Highlands won with a time of 34:36, and Samantha Kirkham of Hinsdale was the top woman finisher with a time of 40:42.

In the 5K race, Mike Janusek of Western Springs was the fastest man with a time of 16:43; Kate Desprosperis of Downers Grove finished first among women with a time of 19:11.

Mark Holt won the Double competition with 4 points; and Stephanie Han of Chicago had the top score among women with 45 points.

“The race was run under fairly good conditions and we had no incidents or injuries reported,” said race director Len Caldeira.

The Jesse White Tumblers entertained the crowd while waiting for the awards.

The Western Springs Recreation Department co-sponsored the contest with the Bear Necessities Pediatric Foundation, which raises funds through a race partnership to fight cancer in children. Emily Wheeler, a Bear Necessities Cancer patient, thanked supporters for their kindness.
