The Night Ministry hosted its annual Lighting Up the Night awards dinner and auction on June 7 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago.

More than 325 attendees, the largest in the agency’s 36-year history, turned out in support of the organization, which offers housing and health care to Chicagoans struggling with poverty and homelessness.

The event raised a record-breaking $333,338.

The Union Church of Hinsdale was one of this year’s honorees, celebrated for being an outstanding community partner and volunteer organization.

Union Church has been involved with the Night Ministry since the organization started in 1976, providing a steady stream of volunteers and financially supporting the group. Church members regularly volunteer at the Health Outreach Bus, serving meals to homeless and at-risk individuals, as well as serving a rotation at the Humboldt Park bus stop on Saturday nights. In addition, they often host visitors from the Night Ministry to speak during services about the group’s work in the Chicago community.

Other honorees included Anne and Bill Goldstein of Evanston, and Bonnie Kepplinger.

Husband and wife duo Karen Jordan, of WLS-Channel 7, and Christian Farr, of WMAQ-Channel 5, hosted the evening’s festivities, which included dinner as well as silent and live auctions.

The Night Ministry is a Chicago-based organization that works to provide housing, health care and human connection to community members struggling with poverty or homelessness. The organization also offers outreach and social services.
