Spay Day USA

During February, the Hinsdale Humane Society (HHS) is commemorating Spay/Neuter Month in conjunction with the annual Spay Day USA Campaign. The Hinsdale Humane Society will offer 40 $75 vouchers to pet owners to use at participating veterinary clinics to have their pets spayed or neutered at a reduced rate. Vouchers will be distributed from the shelter during regular business hours on a first-come, first-serve basis and will include a list of participating area veterinary clinics. The pet owner will be responsible for scheduling the appointment to have the surgery performed during February, March or April. Additionally, Spay Day Hearts will be available for a donation to the HHS Spay/Neuter Fund. Each Spay Day Heart purchased will allow HHS to offer additional spay/neuter vouchers to the community. The hearts will be on display in the HHS lobby. Hinsdale Humane Society is located at 22 N. Elm St. in Hinsdale and regular business hours are 2-8 p.m. Tuesdays; noon-6 p.m. Wednesdays through Fridays; 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Spaghetti dinner

American Legion Post 1941 will host its annual spaghetti dinner from 4-8 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Robert E. Coulter Jr. Post 1941, 900 S. La Grange Road in La Grange. There will be spaghetti with meat or marinara sauce, tossed salad, bread, dessert and a beverage plus entertainment. The fee is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-10. Admission is free for children under 4. This event provides resources for yearly community activities including the Post’s public and veterans support initiatives. Get FITsicle

The teen board of the Robert Crown Center for Health Education will host its Let’s Get FITsicle winter fundraiser from 2-4 p.m. Feb. 11 at Pump It Up, 684 W. Lake St. in Elmhurst. Parents can drop off their first-eighth grade children for an afternoon of jumping in indoor inflatables, while learning about ways to eat right and get enough exercise. The cost is $20 per child. Top Hat Ball

The 16th annual Marklund Top Hat Ball will take place at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at Marriott Chicago Downtown, 540 N. Michigan Ave. in Chicago. The black-tie affair will feature a dinner, dance and auction all within an authentic French atmosphere. Tickets are $300. For more information, call (630) 593-5445.

Chef Fest

The western suburbs’ most celebrated chefs will be featured at the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Guild’s Chef Fest 2012 from 5:30-9 p.m. Feb. 23 at 100 Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace. This event provides a unique opportunity for attendees to enjoy their favorite area restaurants and try new ones. A donation of $60 per person is required. Public health talk

Jeffrey Patterson, past president of Physicians for Social Responsibility, will address potential impacts on public health and safety of a nuclear Illinois in the wake of Fukushima from 1-3 p.m. Feb. 18 at Hinsdale United Methodist Church, 945 S. Gallery Gala

Love Christian Clearinghouse in Clarendon Hills will present a Gallery Gala fundraiser featuring a fine art and upscale craft exhibition from 3-9 p.m. Feb. 25 at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road in Elmhurst. The event will include art, music and appetizers. Tickets are $8 each in advance or $10 at the door. Proceeds benefit DuPage’s needy.
