Lyons Township High School student arrested for verbal threat

LA GRANGE — A 17-year-old Brookfield boy has been charged with two counts of felony disorderly conduct after threatening a fellow student at Lyons Township High School.
The boy issued a verbal threat of a violent nature on Jan. 17, and school authorities notified police, said investigator Ken Uhr. The boy turned himself in to police Jan. 22, and an investigation revealed an earlier threat took place Jan. 14 at the school’s north campus, 100 S. Brainard Ave.
“At no point was there any furtherance of any criminal act,” Uhr said. “Nobody’s safety was in jeopardy.”
Uhr said no physical contact was made, nor was there a weapon displayed or implied.
In another setting, the threat may have been classified as a misdemeanor, but it was deemed a felony because it took place at a school, he said.
“The school was 100 percent cooperative in assisting us with the investigation,” the investigator said. “It’s a serious thing. The school wants us to know any kind of threat will be handled seriously and will be prosecuted.”
Bond was set at $100,000 at a hearing Jan. 23 at the Bridgeview branch of Cook County Circuit Court. The boy was being held in the Cook County Department of Corrections in lieu of bond.
