Residents celebrate summer on the green

Western Springs friends and families marked the beginning of summer in a traditional way Friday, gathering on the green surrounding the village’s historic water tower.
Events included displays of fire equipment, offerings from area resutarants and special activities for all ages.
The Gathering on the Green also helps the Western Springs Business Association raise funds for their annual scholarship, which is awarded to students who are or have worked for an association member business, with “outstanding character, integrity and commitment to the local community.”
This year’s gathering included music from the Banjo Buddies, the Midway Ramblers Cajun Band, and Retrospect.
