Sisters Jackie Wilkinson and Debbie Feiler grew up working for their family business, Fuller’s Carwash. As Fuller’s expanded, so did these sister’s desire to create a business of their own.
In 1994, the two sisters opened a store in Western Springs that would specialize in “fine furnishing for baby and child’s room” which they called Beautiful Beginnings. Eighteen years later, Beautiful Beginnings remains a favorite among mothers.
The store sells an array of product such as nursery furniture, children’s furniture, gifts, clothing, and accessories. Not only does Beautiful Beginnings provide quality merchandise, but also convenient services such as one-on-one baby registration, in-home decorating consultations, and professional event coordination for baby showers and Christenings. Customers can comfortably sit at the design center bar and pick out art, paint, wood, and linens. Customer Danene McMahon, resident of Hinsdale, tells about her enjoyable experience at Beautiful Beginnings, “It was so fun and easy! I wanted to decorate my little girl’s bedrooms and I simply sat down and pointed to things I liked. The finished product was everything I had hoped for and more!” Beautiful Beginnings also offers online shopping which can be accessed on their website, www.shopbeautifulbeginnings.com.
Beautiful Beginnings’ signature smell and music makes for an enjoyable and memorable ambiance. Wilkinson explains how customers will walk into the store and say that they are overcome by the desire to have another baby. Customer Mary Carol Grace, resident of Western Springs, raves about Beautiful Beginnings, “They have great stuff! Beautiful clothing, cozy blankets, unique accessories. The girls there are so personable! They have great gift ideas and they always pay attention to detail. The customer service is superb, the girls always offer monogramming and gift wrapping. I love the convenience of the shop being right here in our back yard.”
Six years ago, Beautiful Beginnings expanded its location to Lincoln Park in Chicago. Feiler manages the Chicago shop while Wilkinson manages the Western Springs shop. Customer satisfaction is something of which the sisters are proud.
“Customers have been coming back for years. They’ll buy nursery furniture, and then ten years later they’ll be back to purchase their child’s bedroom set!” Wilkinson said.
If Wilkinson and Feiler love one thing in the world, it is babies! The sisters have had 11 babies between the two.
Wilkinson expresses her love for baby clothes and she does all the buying for the Western Springs store.
Hinsdale resident Jackie Murray is a frequent Beautiful Beginnings shopper.
“The store is so pretty, and smells so good. The staff’s very helpful as well,” Murray said. “Beautiful Beginnings is my first and only stop when I need to buy a baby gift. My only complaint is that purchasing a gift always turns into multiple gifts, because everything is so darn cute!”
